Abstract

The intrinsic angular resolution of ultrasound attenuation was used to directly probe the anisotropy of the quasiparticle excitation spectrum of superconducting Sr 2RuO 4 in zero magnetic field. The power law dependence of the ultrasound attenuation persisting down to T c/30 established the existence of nodes in the gap function of the compound.
