N2 - Much work falls to patients who interact with a vast and fragmented healthcare system [19]. My dissertation research concerns new parents' navigation practices in the multi-institutional healthcare system in the U.S. Examples include finding and coordinating particular health services, learning insurance information, and seeking medical knowledge. The goal is to identify the challenges the healthcare system presents to new parents, document their strategies for tackling these challenges, and provide implications for HCI design that facilitates new parents' navigation practices.
