Abstract
A formula for the collision rate in a harmonic trap was derived as a function of temperature for an energy-independent cross section σ. It was shown that the numerically calculated collision rates for both the energy-independent and unitary-limited cross sections agree with analytic expressions derived for the high-temperature limit. A hydrodynamic parameter φ=Γ/ω⊥ was defined and calibrated by observing the threshold for hydrodynamic expansion of a strongly interacting Fermi gas as a function of evaporation time.
