Abstract
This chapter presents the Ethnomethodological tradition of Conversation Analysis (CA) as a way to investigate entrepreneurship-as-practice. By directing the analyst's attention to the same observable features of interaction that founders use to make entrepreneurial work intelligible for and by themselves, CA reveals the endogenous means by which entrepreneuring is accomplished. This chapter makes two contributions. First, it provides a CA primer for scholars of entrepreneurship. It explains what CA is, how a CA study is done, and why CA is positioned to uniquely contribute to the development of theories of entrepreneurship-as-practice. It also highlights several new developments in the CA process including changes in technologies and techniques that may be especially relevant to scholars interested in entrepreneurship-as-practice. Second, this chapter suggests ways that CA studies can bridge the gap between theory and practice. In particular, it describes ways that CA studies can inform entrepreneurship education.
