Abstract

Active learning techniques have been shown to be effective in improving student engagement in the classroom. Poll questions are a common approach used for large classes. The paper presents an attempt of deploying in-class poll questions in a small class to enhance student learning experience, and discusses the lessons learned from the experiment. While the student feedback on the poll questions was mostly positive, they did not appear to have made a meaningful positive contribution to the class due to a few unique challenges associated with the course.
