Abstract

This investigation examined how cognitive operations in a second language (L2) interact with a first language (L1). We utilized a 'knowledge structure' measurement method to determine the lexical structure of bilingual learners elicited as semantic maps before (Premap), during (During map), and after (Post map) writing in L1 and L2. All semantic maps were converted into 'Pathfinder Networks' to compare the mental representation of L1-L2 lexical relationships.
