Verification and validation process for CBM maintenance credits

This paper summarizes the work of a Vertical Lift Consortium Industry Team which provides guidance for the Verification and Validation (V&V) of CBM Maintenance Credits. The material outlines formal processes for use in qualifying maintenance credits. These approaches are not the only methods. This guidance material does not address V&V best practices that would normally be utilized throughout product and system development cycles. To be specific about our objective and these terms, Verification provides testing or other evidence that the credit application meets its specifications. Validation provides testing or other evidence that the credit application performs as intended in the operational and maintenance environment of the aircraft. This paper addresses V&V with reference to a generic CBM system containing "On-board" and "Off-board" components as well as interfaces to the aircraft operator's Maintenance Management System. This paper will focus on test strategies and requirements to formally V&V the different types of credits. This work was completed with the support of government stakeholders and will be integrated into the Army's CBM Aeronautical Design Standard, ADS-79.
