Abstract

An evanescently coupled photodiode that uses a planar multimode waveguide was discussed. A very high responsivity with a polarization dependence of less than 0.5 dB was obtained. A 48 GHz bandwidth and a 11 mA saturation currents were also obtained. The design and fabrication of a short planar multimode waveguide photodiode (SPMWP) was also discussed along with its optoelectronic characteristics.
