title = "Vibration based diagnostics of fatigue damage",
abstract = "Damage detection by means of non-destructive testing is absolutely essential for optimal maintenance scheduling to achieve high reliability and safety of engineering structures. This paper presents an experimental study to inspect the influence of fatigue crack on the dynamic behavior of a cantilevered beam. The variations in the statistical, spectral, and time-frequency analysis results due to the evolution of fatigue crack are detected from the time series data of vibration signals. The comparative evaluation of their sensitivity is investigated and it is found that statistical and spectral patterns in these signals correlate well with the crack growth. The results can be used for on-line monitoring and as prognosis technique to estimate the remaining fatigue life.",
