Abstract

Vibrational relaxation in liquid pyridine was investigated by means of Brillouin scattering. Comparison of experimental results with theoretical predictions indicates a double relaxation with all but the two lowest vibrational modes having relaxed at lower than experimental frequencies. These results are in agreement with those of Takagi and Negishi [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 65, 86 (1979)], rather than those of Jain and Whittenburg [J. Phys. Chem. 92, 2023 (1988)].
