Abstract

Voigt wave propagation in biaxial composite materials, whose component materials phases do not support the propagation of Voigt waves, was discussed. It was found that Maxwell Garnett estimates of the homogenized composite medium (HCM) constitutive parameters were in close agreement with the orientations found using the Bruggeman HCM estimates. Results showed that HCM could arise from component phases that do not support Voigt wave propagation.
