Abstract
First off, it is important to closely examine the perineum. Is there redness, scaling, or papular lesions? Is the rash localized to the labia/scrotum, prominent in the creases, or generalized throughout? The appearance and location of the rash (if there is any) can help differentiate the numerous causes of perineal pruritus. Many of the common causes present more frequently in girls, but boys too have their fair share of itching. Table 21-1 lists different clinical presentations and common diagnoses. Table 21-1 Common Causes of Perineal Itching.
