Abstract
The principles of sustainability and a framework for developing a lifecycle approach to chemical engineering was explored for sustainability thereby encompassing green chemistry and green engineering. The cycling of materials in nature forms the basis for key ideas in industrial ecology, where the adverse effects could possibly arise from the unfettered discharge of material. Regulations from federal, state and local governments allow the pollution of the environment to continue at a much slower rate, with a major focus on the end-of-pipe treatment of effluent streams. The sustainability is also regarded as economic factor and social issues so as to preserve and protect the environment and to promote social responsibility with respect to employees, customers, neighbors and the endeavor. It is also defined for securing people's quality of life within the means of nature, which exists a along a continuum like freedom and justice.
