Abstract
Chester County, Pennsylvania is the most productive mushroom growing county in the United States. However, mushroom farming has been at the center of community conflicts over agriculture. Mushroom compost consists of horse and chicken manure, hay or straw, and minerals. The country's proximity to urban areas now means it is in the path of rapid suburbanization. This report examines mushroom growers' informal indications that on-farm composting was the major source of complaints.
