Abstract
Anisotropic planar rotor (APR) phase transition was shown to be weakly first order because of nearby tricritical point. The APR model was mapped onto a generalized Potts model, in which there were two types of unfavorable bonds with different energies. Phase behavior of generalized model as a function of the two bond energies by Monte Carlo simulation was investigated. A line of transitions connecting the six state Potts model to a point with three-state Potts model behavior were also identified.
