Abstract
Cognitive work analysis has some formal terms relevant here (see, e.g., Chapter 6). The kitchen is itself a source of affordances: the “eaters” in the house might simply open the refrigerator. For example, look at those lovely Georgia peaches, and think of the flavors that they may ultimately afford in tonight’s dessert, while the more experienced cook sees many more intermediate affordances in terms of how the kitchen’s physical space and tools might be applied when making the said dessert.
