Abstract
A thorough working knowledge of suture materials and instruments is essential for successful dermatologic surgery. This chapter reviews suture properties, describes the characteristics of the suture materials most commonly employed in cutaneous surgery, and offers detailed guidance on suture and needle selection for various applications. The second half focuses on instruments, discussing their nomenclature and emphasizing proper instrument selection and care. Sample surgical tray setups are pictured and, whenever possible, helpful hints and clinical pearls from the authors’ experiences are highlighted.
