Abstract

The possibility of generating more favorable kinetics and/or enhanced H-storage in very small diameter metal nanoparticles was studied in the PdHx system. The permeable coating was added to prevent sintering during the experiments. These Pd ultrafine particles exhibited the fcc structure with the same lattice constant. The signature of the alpha-beta phase transition of PdHx UFP was similar to that of the bulk, although noteworthy differences are observed. On the other hand, theoretical predictions indicated that the transition to the beta-phase should disappear in small particles. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 230th ACS National Meeting (Washington, DC 8/28/2005-9/1/2005).
