Abstract

Six different samples of oil shale from the United States and Turkey were pyrolyzed in a tubular flow reactor set up with nitrogen sweep under non-isothermal conditions. Four oil shale samples supplied by Colorado School of Mines were obtained from Colorado Green River region at different locations and depths. Samples from Turkey were provided by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation and came from two different locations, Himmetoglu and Hatildag. Oil shale samples were analyzed by proximate and ultimate analyses and TGA/MS. Three different heating rates were used in the pyrolysis experiments. Liquid pyrolysis products were analyzed by GC/MS. The results showed significant differences in yield and hydrocarbon distribution of the liquid products between the oil shale samples from different regions.
