Abstract
The goal of youth sport is the development and mastery of sport skills, including fine and gross motor skills, spatial awareness, coordination, and more. But, a youth athlete's development of these skills is facilitated by the youth sport coach or sport skill teacher. An effective teaching experience will lead to learning, or in other words, a change in behavior (Wrisberg, 2007). An effective teaching experience is comprised of the two main elements that must work in tandem to maximize development. The two elements are (1) the coach's identification of the athlete's mental and physical ability and capability, and (2) the coach's use of effective teaching methods, specifically the use of instructional cues and visual metaphors.
